Convert Digital Elevation Model files into STL files for 3D printing

STEP 1: UPLOAD DEM & SELECT REGION

To get a DEM file of your area, go to https://apps.nationalmap.gov/downloader/ and download the DEM file (these can be 200-500 MB).

FILE UPLOAD

Drop DEM file here

GeoTIFF (.tif, .tiff) - max 500MB

SELECT REGION OF INTEREST

Load DEM file to see map

Pan and zoom to select the area you want to process. The current map view defines your region of interest.

STEP 2: VIEW SELECTED DEM DATA

Warning: If you see a diagonal line through your image, try selecting a different/smaller area. This is a known bug without an easy fix.

INFORMATION & TIPS

SUPPORTED FORMATS

GeoTIFF (.tif, .tiff) format only. Maximum file size: 500MB.

VERTICAL EXAGGERATION

Multiplies terrain height for dramatic effect. Higher values show more detail but may require supports.

3D PRINTING TIPS

Adjust base height for stable printing. Lower resolution processes faster but reduces detail.

SMOOTHING

Reduces noise in terrain data. Apply light smoothing for cleaner prints without losing detail.
